The JACQUES Initiative (JI) is a program of the Institute of Human Virology (IHV) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) offering HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) testing, prevention, education, linkage to care and supportive services through our Community Outreach Program and HIV Support Services.

The JACQUES Initiative is comprised of two programs, Community Outreach and Community Based Care  and also partners with the clinical THRIVE Program which provides treatment for HIV and other infectious diseases, as well as PrEP & PEP prevention services.

The mission of JACQUES Initiative is to change lives, engage communities and support health systems affected by HIV and Hepatitis C.

The Community Outreach Program provides free support services and care in a sex-positive, non-judgmental manner while following principles of harm-reduction. Our target population is located throughout the State of Maryland, including State Correctional Facilities, with a particular focus on the Baltimore Metropolitan Area.

This program supports people living with HIV to maintain and improve their physical and mental health by staying engaged in their healthcare. The team works closely with a patient's medical team, but can provide a level of services and support that is not available within a regular clinic setting.
