HIV Prevention

While HIV is now a treatable chronic condition, there are also excellent medication options available to prevent HIV.

PrEP

HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) can be taken before an HIV exposure to prevent HIV. There are both oral (daily pill) and injectable (in-clinic shot every other month) options.

Both oral and injectable PrEP are 99% effective in preventing HIV when taken as prescribed!

PEP

HIV post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) can be used to prevent HIV up 72 hours (3 days) after a potential HIV exposure. If you believe you may have been exposed to HIV after sex or sharing needles or works, please call to be seen as soon as possible after – the medication works best the sooner it is started!
